Titan Comics Release More Details Of New Doctor Who Comics

VIDEO: John Hurt Talks About David Tennant And Matt Smith



Red Carpet News caught up with The War Doctor himself, John Hurt, at the Critics' Circle Film Awards yesterday. They asked him for his thoughts on being part of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary celebrations and playing an incarnation of the Doctor in The Day Of The Doctor alongside David Tennant and Matt Smith.

"I love working with Matt. I love working with David as well," he said, "They were brilliant at it...I had to get the old gym shoes on to keep up with them, I tell you."

John also admitted that the international reach of the show caught him by surprise. "To be quite honest I didn't realise how big Doctor Who was," he confessed. "I thought it was a cult!"

Doctor Who The Day Of The Doctor Was Third Most Watched In iPlayer Chart



The 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who, The Day Of The Doctor, starring Matt Smith, John Hurt and David Tennant was the third most watched show of 2013 on BBC iPlayer.

The special episode which also starred Jenna Coleman, Joanna Page and Billie Piper received 3,144,000 views on the BBC's interactive catchup service.

The Series 7 episode of Doctor Who, The Bells Of Saint John, also featured in the top ten after being watched by 2,610,000 viewers on the service. 

The full top ten was as follows:
1. Top Gear Series 19 - Africa Special: Part 1 - 3,422,000 views
2. Top Gear Series 19 - Episode 1 - 3,220,000 views
3. Doctor Who - The Day of the Doctor - 3,144,000 views
4. Bad Education Series 2 - Swimming Gala Episode 1 - 2,907,000 views
5. Top Gear Series 19 - Africa Special: Part 2 Episode 7 - 2,764,000 views
6. Top Gear Series 20 - Episode 1 - 2,649,000
7. Top Gear Series 19 - Episode 2 - 2,625,000
8. Africa - Kalahari Episode 1 - 2,617,000

The Daily Telegraph reports that  in total BBC iPlayer received 3 billion requests to catch up with TV and radio shows in 2013, an increase of 33 per cent from 2012.

New Doctor Who Toy Ranges Revealed At Toy Fair London Today



Both Character Options and Titan have revealed their new ranges of Doctor Who figures set for release in 2014. The new action figures were unveiled at Toy Fair 2014, the largest UK trade fair dedicated to toys which is talking place over three days at Kensington Olympia this week.


Titan Merchandise showed off their new lines of vinyl figures featuring the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors. The Geronimo! Collection features figures based on Doctor Who’s seventh season and the 50th Anniversary special, including the War Doctor, a Zygon and Strax characters.




The Gallifrey Collection features David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor in the orange spacesuit, Rose Tyler, a Dalek and a Tardis with “Bad Wolf” spray-painted onto it.

They also revealed 6.5 inch tall vinyl figures of the Tenth Doctor and the Eleventh Doctor as he appears in the Season 7. The range will also include new Dalek models.




The Geronimo! Collection is scheduled for June, while the Gallifrey Collection will be released in August. The 6.5 inch figures are expected sometime in 2014 but a retail date has not been specified.


Character Options will release some new additions to their range of 3.75 action figures. The brand new set of seven figures is based around the 50th anniversary and Christmas specials and will include the Twelfth Doctor, Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor, companion Clara Oswald, a Zygon, an Assault Dalek and an Imperial Guard Dalek. The first wave is expected in stores for June 2014, with other characters added as series 8 airs later in the year.

Doctor Who Wins Best Drama At The National Television Awards



Doctor Who won the Best Drama category in the 2014 National Television Awards this evening.

The show beat off stiff competition in the form of acclaimed crime drama Broadchurch, starring former Doctor Who star David Tennant, Call The Midwife and Downton Abbey. The show celebrated its 50th year in 2013 with a special anniversary episode, The Day Of The Doctor, that featured the return of David Tennant and Billie Piper and introduced John Hurt as a previously unknown incarnation of the Time Lord. The year culminated in Matt Smith's exit from the role as Peter Capaldi stepped in to take over as the new Doctor. The award was accepted on behalf of the show by Jenna Coleman who plays companion Clara.

Earlier on, Matt Smith scooped Best Drama performance for his role as the Doctor, winning against Miranda Hart, Maggie Smith and Martin Clunes.

Matt later sent a taped acceptance speech from backstage at the Almeida Theatre where he is currently performing in American Psycho



Unfortunately Broadchurch's crime solving team David Tennant and Olivia Colman were both pipped to the post in the new Radio Times TV Detective Award which was won by Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock.

Penguins: Spy In The Huddle,which was narrated by David, also lost out to Educating Yorkshire in the Documentary category.

Doctor Who Teams Up With Titan Comics To Bring All New Comic Book Adventures



BBC Worldwide and Titan Comics are to team up for all-new Doctor Who comic book adventures that will include stories featuring David Tennant's Tenth Doctor.

BBC Worldwide issued the following statement earlier today:

In the universe of Doctor Who regenerations bring not only a new Doctor but often a fresh look and feel to the series and BBC Worldwide is bringing that same approach to Doctor Who comics as it signs a new deal with Titan Comics. The deal will open up the world of Doctor Who and provide fans with new stand alone adventures featuring the Tenth Doctor, Eleventh Doctor and after the new series launch, the Twelfth Doctor. Creative and production teams will be announced in the coming weeks and the first comic books will be released in 2014.

The Doctor Who Christmas special, The Time of the Doctor, saw Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor regenerate into the Twelfth Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi. The next season is now in production and will premiere in 2014. In 2013, Doctor Whoset ratings and social media records for BBC AMERICA.

Doctor Who is sold to over 200 territories across the world and last year was awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest TV drama simulcast ever after the 50th Anniversary special was broadcast to 98 countries at the same time as well in thousands of cinemas across the globe.

UK & USA RELEASE: Pre Order Doctor Who Novels: The Monster Collection


The BBC are republishing a collection of Doctor Who novels featuring some of the show's best loved monsters as part of The Monster Collection. The books will be published in the USA on 4th March 2014 and in the UK on 6th March 2014.

The collection which features new cover art will include Sting Of The Zygons by Stephen Cole and Prisoner Of The Daleks by Trevor Baxendale both featuring David Tennant's Doctor.

Other titles in the collection include the Tom Baker adventure The Corpse Marker , the Peter Davison era Sands Of Time, Sylvester McCoy's Illegal Alien and Shakedown, the Jon Pertwee story Scales Of Injustice and Touched By Angel featuring Matt Smith's Doctor.

USA: Watch Farewell To Matt Smith Online



The recent BBC America special Farewell To Matt Smith is now available for American viewers to watch online. The show originally aired on Christmas Day, preceding Matt's final episode The Time Of The Doctor.

The special took a look back at Matt's four years in the role of the Doctor with contributions from colleagues and celebrity fans of the show, including David Tennant, Steven Moffat, Jenna Coleman, Chris Hardwick, Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan. The programme was narrated by Alex Kingston. Matt and friends reminisced about his arrival, his acceptance by fans and the Doctor's companions and foes. He also discussed appearing alongside his predecessor David Tennant and John Hurt in The Day Of The Doctor for the 50th Anniversary.

Of Matt's arrival on the Doctor Who set, David Tennant recalls:
“I remember very vividly the day that Matt came on set for the first time. There was a sense of occasion about it, and people, executive producers were arriving…apparently bus loads of people were coming up from London."

The BBC have released a new day Of The Doctor behind-the-scenes video clip featuring David Tennant and Matt Smith. The two stars of the 50th Anniversary special discuss working together and the differences between their two Doctors, including their relative successes with the ladies.




The Day Of The Doctor, also starring John Hurt, Billie Piper and Jenna Coleman is now available on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK.
