The Doctors Revisted 9-11 is released on DVD in the USA today. 

The 3-disc DVD box set features documentaries about Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith.

Each documentary provides an in depth look at the Doctor, his characteristics, his companions and notable enemies, with contributions from notable faces from the Whovian world.

The Doctor Who documentary series, The Doctors Revisted, continues on Watch this afternoon at 2pm with a look at the Ninth Doctor, Christoper Eccleston.
It will be followed at 2.30pm with the classic Eccleston era episodes, Bad Wolf and The Parting Of The Ways, which of course features the regeneration scene where David Tennant makes his debut appearance.

UK Doctor Who The Complete Box Set Blu-ray Artwork

The art work for the UK version of the Doctor Who series 1-7 Blu-ray box set has been revealed.

The collection includes Series 1-4, featuring Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston and Tenth Doctor David Tennant, making their Blu-ray debut in newly remastered versions at full 1080p high definition, plus Series 5-7 featuring Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith, also on 1080p high definition Blu-ray. Catch up with the complete new Doctor Who in high definition just in time for the historic 50th Anniversary Special in November 2013.

USA: The Doctors Revisited Ninth Doctor Premieres On BBC America Tonight

Tonight sees the premiere of the latest in the series of BBC America specials exploring each of the eleven incarnations of the Doctor. The brand new episode focuses on the Ninth Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston.

BBC AMERICA celebrates the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, in a new special of Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited. Eccleston heralded the return of the show and was the first Doctor to appear in the 21st Century. The special begins with lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, writer Neil Gaiman, John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) who played the Ninth Doctor’s companion,  and actor Noel Clarke (Mickey Smith), among others, discussing Eccleston portraying a no nonsense, hard hitting and straight talking Doctor. The Region 1 DVD (North America) of Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited 9 -11 will be available from the 3rd December 2013 from Amazon.

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, BBC America have been screening a series of monthly specials, each focusing on a single incarnation of the Doctor. The final three episodes explore the respective tenures of the post-relaunch Doctors, played by Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith. The documentaries feature exclusive interviews with the Doctors, other notable cast members and programme creators. Steven Moffat On The Serious, Sexy And Insane Incarnations Of The Doctor

Steven Moffat has been reflecting on Matt Smith's performance as the Doctor and also on the Doctor Who star's two predecessors ahead of the first appearance of Peter Capaldi in the role this Christmas. Talking to TV Drama on Worldscreen he said of the most recent incarnations of the Doctor: 

"It’s interesting to look at the three modern Doctors—and there’s about to be a fourth—and see what each of them bring to the show. Christopher [Eccleston] brought a gravitas and an importance, a statement that this is a serious proposition—a famous actor playing the part [of the Doctor]. He brought a toughness to it, a sensibleness to it. And then David [Tennant] for the very first time got the idea that the Doctor could be cool and sexy—a sort of dashing hero. 

What Matt brought to it, which is the last thing you'd expect from the youngest-ever Doctor, is he absolutely restored the idea that the Doctor is fundamentally an absent-minded professor. Matt’s Doctor is quite, quite mad. I remember David saying, I wish I had done it like that! Matt has such a madcap quality that what he brought was more than eccentricity—he’s absolutely insane. If David’s Doctor turned up [at your house] for morning coffee, he’d be fine. He’d be a lovely young man and he’d chat everybody up. Matt’s Doctor would turn up on a camel. He’s bonkers. The last thing anybody thought when we cast the 26-year-old was that what we’d get is a return to the eccentric old boffin that he is at heart, the hipster boffin."

As usual he had little to reveal about the 50th Anniversary special, saying, "It will be on November 23rd. John Hurt is in it and he’s playing the Doctor, and that’s cool. John Hurt is very cool."

However, explaining why the series has survived for 50 years he said, "...you can recast the Doctor. Not only can you recast the Doctor, you can create a Doctor who is appropriate for the times. He can always be modern. He can always be new. It’s an ancient tradition and yet it’s a brand-new iteration of that tradition. So it feels old and new at the same time, old and young."

David Tennant Leading The Independent's Favourite Doctor Poll

In the build up to yesterday's announcement that Peter Capaldi would be taking over the TARDIS, The Independent asked it's readers who their favourite actor to play the Doctor has been and David Tennant is leading the way with 59% of votes.

In second place is current Doctor Matt Smith with 15% of the votes and in third place is the Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccelston with 10% of the vote. Tom Baker is the highest ranking classic Doctor with 8% of the vote.

Russell T Davies' Doctor Who Era Wins Cultbox Poll

The Russell T Davies era of Doctor Who has been named as Cultbox readers favourite era of the show. 
Davies' tenure which starred both David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor topped the poll with an impressive 44.4% votes.

It's nearest competition came in the form of current showrunner Steven Moffat and his Doctor played by Matt Smith who scooped 27.9% of the votes.

Davies' series included some iconic episodes of  the drama, including the epic Doomsday and The End Of Time and  he managed to secure big name guests for the series including the likes of Sir Derek Jacobi and the pop star Kylie Minogue. 
He is credited with introducing the show to a wider audience including picking up a strong female following for the series by introducing us to companions Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate).
Davies also created the spin off series The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood during his time on the show.

Good news for fans of vinyl as Silva Screen will be releasing a double LP version of Murray Gold's music from series 1 and 2 of the relaunched Doctor Who. The 12" vinyl release contains music from Christopher Eccleston's tenure as the Ninth Doctor and from David Tennant's first series as the Tenth Doctor, and is limited to only 500 copies.

The tracks are performed by the BBC National Orchestra Of Wales, conducted and orchestrated by Ben Foster, with additional vocals by Neil Hannon.

Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy) performs two songs, Song For 10 from 2005's Christmas Special and Love Don't Roam from The Runaway Bride, broadcast as the key BBC programme for Christmas Day 2006.

Murray Gold is one of the most powerful British composers working in film and TV with successes including Alien Autopsy, Casanova, Shameless and Mischief Night.

BFI Announce Ninth Doctor Screening For August Is Bad Wolf / The Parting Of The Ways

The BFI have announced that their August screening in the Doctor Who At 50 series will be the Ninth Doctor episodes Bad Wolf and The Parting Of The Ways. This two-part story heralded the end of the ninth Doctor’s memorable time on the show and features a tight script by Russell T. Davies. Caught in a nightmare cycle of endless reality television, the Doctor and Captain Jack have Daleks to fight, Rose to rescue and the horror of the Big Brother house to contend with. It’s a thrilling end to the first of a new chapter in the history of a show now 50 years old and with no sign of ending.

Bad Wolf The Doctor, Rose and Captain Jack have to fight for their lives on board the Game Station, but a more dangerous threat is lurking just out of sight. Stars Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper and John Barrowman, with Paterson Joseph and the voices of Davina McCall, Anne Robinson, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine.

The Parting Of The Ways Rose has seen danger and wonders alongside the Doctor, but now their friendship is put to the test as Earth plunges into an epic war. Stars Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper and John Barrowman, with Camille Coduri, Noel Clark and Jo Joyner, with the first appearance of David Tennant as the Doctor.

The screening takes place on 24 Aug 2013 at 2pm at NFT1, BFI Southbank, London. Guests have not yet been announced.

Due to their immense popularity, the Doctor Who at 50 events will be restricted to two tickets per performance and will be subjected to a ballot to ensure the fairest possible allocation of tickets. Champions and Members can apply for up to two tickets at the discounted price of £9.50 (£7) to this event. Tickets will be allocated to two separate ballots – one for Champions and one for Members – and Champions are welcome to enter both. The ballot closes at 20:30 on 5 July. A special  Doctor Who 2014 wall calendar is to be released to celebrate the 50th Anniversary. The calendar features artwork featuring all eleven incarnations of the Doctor, including David Tennant's Tenth Doctor.

Doctor Who Magazine Confirms David Tennant Is The Only Past Doctor To Return For 50th Anniversary

The new issue of Doctor Who Magazine (#460) which is released tomorrow reveals that David Tennant is the only past Doctor who will be appearing in the 50th Anniversary Special.
The magazine also confirms that Christopher Eccleston was approached to take part, but he will not be appearing.
Show boss Steven Moffat says of the special episode that will see David Tennant and Matt Smith join forces "We can't make this all about looking backward..."
Other cast confirmed for the episode include Jenna-Louise Coleman, Billie Piper, Joanna Page and John Hurt.
