AWARDS: Another Win For Broadchurch

Broadchurch scooped another well-deserved prize yesterday when the Television and Radio Industries Club gave out their 2014 awards. 

The acclaimed eight part series, created by Chris Chibnall for Kudos TV, and starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, won the award for Crime Programme of the Year Sponsored by AXA Assistance. Its competitors in the category were Luther and Silent Witness.

Doctor Who was a winner too, of HD Drama Programme of the Year Sponsored by SES, seeing off Call The Midwife and Downton Abbey.

The Television and Radio Industries Club was established in 1931, in the early days of broadcasting as the 'Radio Industries Club'. The founding aim was, "to promote mutual understanding and good will amongst those engaged in the audio, visual, communication and allied industries." and still today TRIC provides valuable networking opportunities for professionals in the broadcasting, communications and entertainment industries. The TRIC Awards are largely voted for by members of the industry. The 2014 ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel and was attended by celebrity guests including Susannah Reid, Tess Daly and the stars of Coronation Street.

Broadchurch Nominations In RTS West Of England Awards Tonight

The Royal Television Society West Of England Awards take place tonight at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre, and the much acclaimed drama Broadchurch has earned itself yet more nominations

Series creator Chris Chibnall has been shortlisted in the Best Writer: Drama, Factual or Entertainment category. He will compete with Lucy Catherine for Frankie and Stephen Gooder for Leopards 21st Century Cats. 

Also, cinematographer Matt Gray is nominated in the Best Photography category supported by Films@59. He finds himself up against the Africa camera team who captured images for BBC Natural History’s Africa: Sahara and James Bickersteth for River Monsters.

The Royal Television Society West Of England Awards in association with Evolutions Bristol are held annually to celebrate the best of the region's talent in television and digital media. Categories cover network television, on-screen talent, craft, digital media and regional television news. The ceremony, starting at 7pm, will be hosted by Carol Vorderman. 

The British Animation Awards Announced At BFI Tonight

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists is up for an award in the Best Long Form Category at The British Animation Awards tonight.

The stop-motion comedy from Aardman Animations and Sony Pictures Animation was directed by British filmmaking legend and Aardman co-founder Peter Lord and based on Gideon Defoe’s cult novel series. The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists (also known as The Pirates! Band Of Misfits in some territories) is a delirious high-seas romp featuring the vocal talents of Hugh Grant as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain, who navigates his salty crew on a perilous mission to Victorian London to aid a young Charles Darwin voiced by David Tennant.

At the time of release David said that it was an easy decision to become involved with the film. "You just want to be associated with what Aardman do,” he told Digital Spy. “It's never less than excellent. When I did read the script I thought, 'This is just a joy!'"

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists will contend against the Oscar-nominated Magic Lights Pictures' Room on the Broom and Lupus Films' The Snowman and the Snowdog.

The British Animation Awards are held every two years and celebrate the best of British animation across an number of categories. Other nominations include Bill Nighy and Morwenna Banks for Best Voice Performance and children's favourites Peppa Pig and Shaun The Sheep. The 2014 Awards will be tonight at the BFI on London's Southbank.

AWARDS: More Nominations For Broadchurch As The RTS Shortlist Is Revealed

The Royal Television Society today unveiled the shortlist for their 2013 Programme Awards, and as expected ITV crime drama Broadchurch features several times. However, despite nominations for co-stars Olivia Colman and  Jodie Whittaker, David Tennant himself misses out on a Best Actor nod this time round. Despite previous successes for his role as DI Alec Hardy in the TV Choice and Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards, here he was edged out by Stephen Dillane (The Tunnel), Idris Elba (Luther) and Lennie James (Run).

Broadchurch  was nominated as Best Drama Serial, with series creator Chris Chibnall shortlisted for Drama Writer. Jodie and Olivia will face off in the Actor - Female category, with Olivia also receiving recognition for her role as single mother Carol in Run. The Broadchurch nominations are:

Multiple Nominations For Broadchurch In The Broadcasting Press Guild Awards

Broadchurch has been nominated as Best Drama Series in the 2014 Broadcasting Press Guild Awards. The drama's stars are also shortlisted, with David Tennant up for Best Acror and Olivia Colman for Best Actress. David finds himself with stiff competition from BAFTA winner Chiwetel Ejiofor along with fellow Scot Peter Mullan and Rory Kinnear. Olivia faces Gillian Anderson, Elizabeth Moss and Maxine Peake. 

The creator of Broadchurch, Chris Chibnall, is nominated as Best Writer.

The Broadcasting Press Guild Television and Radio Awards recognise outstanding programmes and performances seen or heard in the preceding year. All but three of the 14 Awards are voted for by the membership. The rest are decided by specialist panels. The awards, sponsored by the Discovery Channel, will be announced on 28th March at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

More Wins For Broadchurch At The Broadcast Awards

There was double award success for Broadchurch tonight at the 2014 Broadcast Awards which were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The ITV series, which featured an impressive ensemble cast led by David Tennant and Olivia Colman, saw off some impressive competition from the likes of Top Of The Lake, The Fall and Last Tango In Halifax to scoop the prize for Best Drama Series or Serial. The series followed the impact of the murder of a young local boy on a close knit community which finds itself under intense police and media scrutiny as the hunt for the killer progesses.

The series also won the award for Best International Sales for distribution company Shine International.

David Tennant has reached the final stage of voting in the 2014 National Television Awards where he is shortlisted in the brand new Radio Times TV Detective category for his role as DI Alec Hardy in Broadchurch.

AUDIO: David Tennant Heinz Radio Ad Wins Award

The radio ad for Heinz Tomato Soup, 'Cold', voiced by David Tennant has won the Radio Advertising Bureau's Aerial Award for November.

Will Audry, creative partner of Ogilvy and Mather and a judge of the awards said,
"...the Heinz spot stands out for its simplicity and class. David Tennant doesn't sound like he's selling, just telling. It's not overwritten. It puts tomato soup very much in mind and, having listened to a good selection of contenders, it was still in mind days later. An enjoyable piece of descriptive realism delivered memorably by a convincing performance. Nicely judged and nice to judge."

The ad was created by Paul Burke of Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO and was written specifically for David; in fact all of the ads in the long-running Heinz radio campaign are created especially for their readers. Burke said,
"Heinz are true to life. They pick the person carefully – it is hard to find people with recognisable voices. No one has turned down the Heinz radio ad after being asked; it’s a bit like 'Desert Island Discs'."

The 2013 awards will be presented on March 9th 2014 in Los Angeles.

Broadchurch created by Chris Chibnall for ITV and Kudos, starrred Olivia Colman and David Tennant as the police detectives charged with solving the murder of a young boy in a quiet UK seaside town. The acclaimed drama has since been screened around the world and a second series is in development as well as a US adaptation.

Broadchurch Nominated For South Bank Sky Arts Award

Broadchurch has been shortlisted in the TV Drama category in the 2014 South Bank Sky Arts Awards. The Sky Arts awards are the only ones to celebrate the UK's achievements across all genres of the arts.

“Once again, the list of nominees for the South Bank Sky Arts Awards shows that the UKarts landscape is as vibrant as ever. Its vital to honour the excellence of artists, performers, musicians and authors especially at this time, and were very glad that we can do this,” said Melvyn Bragg.

The awards will be presented by Melyvn Bragg at a ceremony on Monday 27 January at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The ceremony will be broadcast on Sky Arts 1 on Thursday 30 January 2014 at 9.30pm.

Watch The Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards On ITV3 Tonight

ITV3 are showing last week's Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards tonight at 9pm.

It was a great night for David Tennant and Broadchurch with David picking up the Best Actor Dagger and the show scooping Best TV Dagger. Olivia Colman and Andrew Buchan also picked up awards.

The ceremony was held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel and although David couldn't make it due to his stage appearance as Richard II in Stratford-upon-Avon many of the Broadchurch cast and crew attended.

More Awards For Broadchurch: Four Wins At The Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards

There were more awards wins for the Broadchurch team tonight at the Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards which were announced this evening at London's Grosvenor Park Hotel. The programme and cast scooped an amazing four of the Dagger Awards in total. 

The Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards celebrate the very best of British and international crime fiction and drama. Tonight's ceremony was hosted by Bradley Walsh and saw awards presented for Best UK and International Crime Series, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Film, alongside prestigious Crime Writers’ Association awards including Gold Dagger for the Best Crime Novel of the Year, and the New Blood Dagger for the Best New Crime Writer of the Year.

Broadchurch, created by Chris Chibnall and produced for ITV by Kudos, won the TV Dagger Award, seeing off stiff competition from Luther, Top Of The Lake, The Fall and Bletchley Circle

David Tennant won the Best Actor Dagger for his role as DI Alec Hardy in the eight part ITV drama in a category that included Damian Lewis, Idris Elba, Paddy Considine and Jason Isaacs

Andrew Buchan won the Best Supporting Actor Dagger; however his fellow cast members Jodie Whittaker and Pauline Quire were not so lucky, both losing out in the Best Supporting Actress category to Amelia Bullmore (Scott And Bailey).

Olivia Colman won Best Actress dagger for her performance as DS Ellie Miller, beating Sophie Grabol, Claire Danes, Lesley Sharp and Gillian Anderson.
