More Broadchurch Awards: Wins At The RTS Programme Awards

There was more well-deserved awards glory for Broadchurch tonight at the Royal Television Society 2014 Programme Awards.

The ITV drama was named Best Serial Drama, seeing off a strong challenge from category competitors In The Flesh (BBC Three) and Top Of The Lake (BBC Two).

Olivia Colman picked up the Best Actor - Female prize for the second year in a row, this time for her portrayals of DS Ellie Miller in Broadchurch and single mother Carol in Run (Channel 4).  She competed against her Broadchurch co-star Jodie Whittaker (Beth Latimer) and Sharon Rooney, star of Channel 4's My Mad Fat Teenage Diary.

Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall was nominated for the Writer - Drama award, but the category was won by Marlon Smith and Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan for Run. Dennis Kelly (Utopia) was also nominated.

David Tennant missed out on a Best Actor nomination for Broadchurch, edged out by Stephen Dillane (The Tunnel, Sky Atlantic), Lennie James (Run, Channel 4) and the category winner, Idris Elba for Luther (BBC One).

The Awards were presented by comedian Tim Vine at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Broadchurch Nominated In Tonight's RTS Awards

Tonight sees the RTS Awards presented by comedian and actor Tim Vine at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Broadchurch is nominated as Best Drama Serial, with series creator Chris Chibnall shortlisted for Drama Writer. Jodie Whittaker and Olivia Colman will face off in the Actor - Female category, with Olivia also receiving recognition for her role as single mother Carol in Run. The Broadchurch nominations are:

AWARDS: More Nominations For Broadchurch As The RTS Shortlist Is Revealed

The Royal Television Society today unveiled the shortlist for their 2013 Programme Awards, and as expected ITV crime drama Broadchurch features several times. However, despite nominations for co-stars Olivia Colman and  Jodie Whittaker, David Tennant himself misses out on a Best Actor nod this time round. Despite previous successes for his role as DI Alec Hardy in the TV Choice and Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards, here he was edged out by Stephen Dillane (The Tunnel), Idris Elba (Luther) and Lennie James (Run).

More Award Nominations For Twenty Twelve And Earthflight

Two programmes narrated by David Tennant, Twenty Twelve and Earthflight, have received nominations in the Royal Television Society Programme Awards 2012. 

The RTS Programme Awards honour excellence in key genres of television programming, from children's to drama, entertainment and soaps, to comedy performance and documentaries, covering both national and regional output. Held annually, they aim to recognise the work of exceptional actors, presenters, writers and production teams, as well as celebrating the programmes themselves. The winners will be announced by comedian, writer and actress Jo Brand at a ceremony on Tuesday 19th March at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Earthflight, by John Downer Productions, used innovative camera techniques to obtain exceptional up-close footage of birds from all around the world. It is nominated in the Science and Natural History category:

• The Plane Crash Dragonfly Film and Television for Channel 4

Twenty Twelve, the spoof documentary series following the fictional Olympic Deliverance Committee in the run up to the 2012 London Games, is shortlisted in three categories: as Best Scripted Comedy plus nominations for writer John Morton and star Jessica Hynes.

United Nominated For Single Drama Award At The RTS Programme Awards

The shortlist for this year’s Royal Television Society Programme Awards has been announced and David's recent drama for BBC Two, United, has been nominated in the Single Drama category.
It will go up against Eric & Ernie and Random.
The annual event honours excellence in key genres of television programming, from children’s drama to comedy performance, history to soaps and covers both national and regional output.
The awards will be hosted by actor and comedian Rob Brydon at a ceremony held on Tuesday 20th March at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
