The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who was celebrated at last night's BAFTA Awards with a video montage featuring all eleven incarnations of the Doctor.

BAFTA Success For Twenty Twelve And Olivia Colman

Spoof documentary series Twenty Twelve has scooped the British Academy Television Award for Best Situation Comedy. The BBC sitcom which starred Hugh Bonneville, Olivia Colman and Jessica Hynes and was narrated by David Tennant followed the trials of the fictional Olympic Deliverence Committee during the final approach to the 2012 London Games. The show beat off competition from Episodes, The Thick Of It and Hunderby.

There was double BAFTA joy for Olivia Colman. Not only did she win the award for Female Performance In A Comedy Programme for Twenty Twelve (beating Julia Davis, Miranda Hart and her Twenty Twelve co-star Jessica Hynes), she also picked up the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Accused - Mo's Story. 

Sadly, Hugh Bonneville missed out on the award for Male Performance In A Comedy Programme to Steve Coogan.

The British Academy Television Awards Are Announced Today: Twenty Twelve Nominated

The Arqiva British Academy Television Awards are announced this evening. Graham Norton hosts the ceremony from the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall.

Twenty Twelve, the spoof documentary series narrated by David Tennant, is among the nominees for Best Situation Comedy. Also the show's stars have been recognised: Hugh Bonneville is named for Male Performance In A Comedy Programme, while Olivia Colman and Jessica Hynes compete for the Female Performance in A Comedy Programme Awards.

Confirmed attendees tonight include Michael Palin (who will be awarded the BAFTA Fellowship this year), Martin Freeman, Huge Bonneville, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Jessica Hynes, Sir Derek Jacobi, Miranda Hart, Russell Tovey and Stephen Mangan. 

The event also includes a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who . A special sketch filmed by Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman will be screened along with a montage of highlights from the whole history of the show. Two Daleks will be patrolling the red carpet and Jenna-Louise Coleman will be on hand to present an award.

Doctor Who Celebration At Sunday's British Academy Television Awards

BAFTA have just announced that the British Academy Television Awards ceremony this Sunday will feature a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who. The show will include a sketch starring Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman and a special montage from the whole history of the show to be screened during the ceremony while a pair of Daleks will be patrolling the red carpet. Also, Jenna-Louise Coleman will be on hand to present an award.

Amanda Berry OBE, Chief Executive of BAFTA, said: “There are only a handful of programmes that have the quality and longevity of Doctor Who and the ability to put the nation on their sofas – or indeed behind them – year after year. BAFTA raises a toast to Doctor Who on its 50th birthday this year.”

Steven Moffat, Doctor Who’s Lead Writer and Executive Producer, said: "This is a massive and exciting year for Doctor Who, so I'm thrilled that BAFTA are including a special tribute to the show. So thrilled, in fact, we're sending the Doctor's best friend, Jenna Coleman, to present an award. We're also sending the Doctor’s worst enemy, the Daleks, to exterminate lots of innocent people. Sorry, it's just what they do. Let us know if it's a Health and Safety issue."

The Arqiva British Academy Television Awards hosted by Graham Norton are presented at the Royal Festival Hall, London on Sunday 12th May, and broadcast on BBC One at 8pm. Comedy show Twenty Twelve, narrated by David Tennant, has received a nomination, as have its stars Jessica Hynes, Olivia Colman and Hugh Bonneville

Twenty Twelve And Its Stars Receive BAFTA Nominations

BBC comedy series Twenty Twelve has picked up a number of nominations in the 2013 Arqiva British Academy Television Awards. The shortlist for the BAFTA Television awards was unveiled earlier today.

The spoof documentary series Twenty Twelve followed the fortunes of the fictional Olympic Deliverance Committee as they prepared for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The series starred Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Hynes and Olivia Colman and was narrated by David Tennant.

Series Two of Twenty Twelve and its stars have received four nominations in all across three categories

BAFTA Craft Awards Nomination For Twenty Twelve Writer

The nominations for the 2013 British Academy Television Craft Awards have been announced. Amongst this year’s shortlist, Twenty Twelve  creator John Morton has been nominated in the Writer: Comedy In 2013 category.

Spoof documentary series Twenty Twelve starred Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Hynes and Olivia Colman and followed the fictional Olympic Deliverance Committee in the run up to the 2012 London Games. David Tennant provided a tongue-in-cheek voiceover for the show which Olympic insiders said was often uncannily close to the truth.

The BAFTA Television Craft Awards honour the very best behind-the-scenes talent from television and new media from the past year. This year's ceremony will take place at The Brewery in the City of London on Sunday 28th April and will be hosted by Stephen Mangan.

BAFTA have released a podcast of the Q&A session that followed the screening of Episode 1 of Broadchurch on the 19th February. The screening took place at 195 Piccadilly and was attended by writer Chris Chibnall, director James Strong and series stars David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker. The Q&A session was compared by the Guardian's Vicky Frost.

Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker Join Broadchurch BAFTA Q&A

BAFTA have updated their events page to include the news that Broadchurch actors Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker will be joining producer Chris Chibnall and director James Strong  for the Q&A session that will take place after the screening of the drama at BAFTA's Princess Anne Theatre on Tuesday 19th February at 6.45pm.

Book Tickets For BAFTA Preview Screening Of Broadchurch With Q&A

BAFTA will be hosting a preview screening of David Tennant's new ITV1 drama, Broadchurch, on Tuesday 19th February 2013 at 6.45pm at the Princess Anne Theatre, BAFTA.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Chris Chibnall and James Strong and some cast members who are yet to be confirmed.


A new eight part ensemble drama series, Broadchurch will explore what happens to a small community when it suddenly becomes the focus of a major event and is subjected to the full glare of the media spotlight.
Bloodied and dirty, Danny Price has been found dead on an idyllic beach, surrounded by rocks and a jutting cliff-face from where he may have fallen. David Tennant takes the role of DI Alec Hardy; an out-of-town, newly promoted police detective who takes the job local girl DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) believes should have been hers. Ellie has to find reserves of patience and toughness to negotiate a professional relationship with the difficult and unyielding Hardy. Yet as the drama progresses, Hardy’s own secrets are laid bare.

Tree Fu Tom Nominated For Two Children's BAFTAs

The 2012 British Academy Children's Awards nominees have been announced, and Tree Fu Tom is named in two categories. The programme has been nominated as best Pre-School Animation, and also in the Interactive category.

Tree Fu Tom was launched earlier this year and is currently CBeebies' most watched show of 2012. The animated programme features the voice talents of Sophie Aldred as Tom, a young boy who uses a magic belt to transport himself to the fantastic kingdom of Treetopolis. There, with his best friend Twigs played by David Tennant, he faces adventures and has to turn to his Tree Fu skills to save the day. The moves that Tom uses to conjure up Big World Magic are specially designed to support movement development in young children, particularly those with dyspraxia and other co-ordination disorders. Tree Fu Tom was created by Daniel Bays and produced by CBeebies and FremantleMedia Entertainment. It was animated by Blue Zoo and the interactive content was created by Plug-in Media.

Earthflight Nominated For A BAFTA Craft Award

Earthflight, the wildlife documentary from John Downer Productions narrated by David Tennant has been nominated for a BAFTA craft award. Michael W. Richards, Richard Cook and Christian Moullec have been nominated in the Photography: Factual category for the Europe episode.
