David Tennant, Jonathan Ross And Arabella Weir Interviewed At Sunshine On Leith Screening

Entertainment site It's Kinda Cool caught up with David Tennant, Arabella Weir and Jonathan Ross at the BAFTA Gala Screening of Sunshine On Leith last night. Presenter and producer Alex Olivier engaged the three in a riotous conversation that took in Atomic Kitten, Pierce Brosnan's singing and the effect of a good musical on a man.

David, who is a self-professed hardcore fan of The Proclaimers, and who had enjoyed the musical during its Scottish tour, expressed his excitement at the prospect of seeing the movie although he was gutted not to have been in it. However, he confessed that he was probably too old to play a squaddie, sparking some gentle ribbing about his age and youthful looks.
"He's 69. You know that when he started he was with Maggie Smith in rep!" joked Jonathan

The conversation turns inevitably to the subject of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special

"It's kinda cool!" was all that David would reveal, "I'm not saying nothing! I'm like a steel trap!"

Sunshine On Leith, directed by Dexter Fletcher, is based on the musical of the same name by Stephen Greenhorn which was inspired by the music of The Proclaimers. The film looks at the lives of two soldiers, returning to Edinburgh after serving in Afghanistan, who struggle to deal with family, jobs and relationships. Starring George Mackay, Kevin Guthrie, Jason Flemyng, Peter Mullan and Jane Horrocks, the film goes on general release on Friday 4th October.

David Tennant Reads Shakespearean Soliquy At Helen Scott Lidgett's Memorial Service

A memorial service for Helen Scott Lidgett was held at Central St Martins in London yesterday and David Tennant was amongst guests in attendance.
David read from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream at the service, fulfilling a wish of Helen's, after she had originally asked friend Arabella Weir to recite it.
Arabella told the Evening Standard:
“One thing we argued about was what was going to be read at her memorial. She said, ‘You’re going to read Puck’s soliloquy because you’re a professional actress’, and I said, ‘I’m absolutely not’.” In the event Arabella persuaded David to step in.
Other tributes were led by Scott Lidgett’s former business partner, ex-PM’s wife Sarah Brown, artists Antony Gormley and Grayson Perry, Royal Academy chief executive Charles Saumarez Smith and ex-V&A boss Mark Jones.

David Tennant will be co starring in a new BBC Radio 4 comedy series, Believe It!, alongside Richard Wilson and Arabella Weir.
The four part series will begin on 9th May 2012 at 11.30-12.00pm

David Tennant Supports Arabella Weir's Kylie Act

David appeared on BBC1 charity dance contest Let's Dance For Sport Relief tonight, showing his support for his friend and former landlady Arabella Weir.

Arabella competed in the latest round of Let's Dance, performing Kylie Minogue's 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. David, interviewed during the show, said that he was well and truly gobsmacked by the performance and hadn't realised that she had it in her. He confessed "My breath is taken away" and thought that Arabella could probably find some work as a Kylie tribute act to give the singer a night off occasionally as he "couldn't slip a bus ticket between them".

Judges Tim Minchin, Katy Brand and Ed Byrne were also very complementary about the routine.

Unfortunately Arabella's Let's Dance adventure ended that night as she failed to make it through the viewer's vote along with BBC presenter Kirsten O'Brien. Overall winners were actors Tyger Drew-Honey and Dani Harmer, with Omid Djalili being voted through by the judges ahead of DJ Scott Mills and singer Ollie Murs.

The final of Let's Dance For Sport Relief is on BBC1 on Saturday 17th March
