Farmers say it is too early to put a count on the cost of the snow storm which has hammered the central North Island. The hills and ranges of Hawke's Bay have been hit mainly hard by the icy blast.
Federated Farmers Hawke's Bay President Kevin Mitchell says several farmers are in the middle of late lambing and some newborns may die. But he says it is too early to say what the injure may be, as farmers will not be able to go out and count stock or bodies until the storm is over.
Mitchell says farmers who are stressed should call their local Federated Farmers rep who may be able to provide feed to keep as much form on stock as possible. It is feared the mixture of snow and cold winds could put stress on newborn livestock.
