First Look At David Tennant's Character In Postman Pat The Movie

The first trailer for the brand new Postman Pat Movie was released today and with it comes a first look at the character voiced by David Tennant.

The movie sees everybody's favourite postman (voiced by Stephen Mangan) being seduced into the world of fast fame through a talent competition hosted by impressario Simon Cowbell. In a plot that seems to involve boybands, helicopters and robot versions of Pat and his faithful cat Jess, David Tennant gives voice to our hero's as yet unnamed nemesis. 

Other cast members include Rupert Grint, Jim Broadbent and Ronan Keating, who provides Pat's singing voice. 

Postman Pat - The Movie opens in UK cinemas on Friday 23rd May.

May 23rd 2014 will see the release of Postman Pat: The Movie in cinemas across the UK and the first official trailer for the animated film has been released.

Stephen Mangan On The Darker Side Of Postman Pat

Stephen Mangan has been speaking out about the new Postman Pat movie in which he stars along with David Tennant and Rupert Grint. Stephen provides the speaking voice for the iconic kids' TV character Pat in the new film which follows the mild-mannered postie's foray into the world of TV talent shows. It turns out that the effects of fame are not all good on the best liked man in Greendale.

"What can I say about Postman Pat? One of the most iconic cartoon characters ever, and also one of the nicest,” Stephen said. "Being nice for an hour and a half is not that interesting, so we take Pat to the dark side. He gets seduced by the lure of fame and fortune. He even falls out with Jess. That's all I'm saying, don't tell the kids!"

Pat, it turns out, has an amazing singing voice, and the temptations of superstardom beckon. Boyzone star Ronan Keating provides the singing parts of the Pat role.

"I did offer to sing and they pretended they didn't hear me ask the question. I think I had a whole musical career, possibly, I could have embarked on, but cruelly cut short by the producers," Stephen joked.

He also revealed a little about the recording process: "I did all my lines in one go on my own in a booth. Lots of one side of an argument. 'What do you mean?' 'How can you say that?' 'Pardon?' I'm looking forward to how everyone else did it. 

"It's very unique as an acting experience. Normally the whole point is like a bit of a tennis match, you're doing something together.You rely on the director to have it all in their head and put the thousand-piece jigsaw together and make it not sound like lots of people who never met each other."

Stephen continued: "We've got David Tennant, Rupert Grint, Jim Broadbent, It's a fantastic cast. I'm excited, I haven't seen it!"

Details of other cast roles have not yet been confirmed. Rupert Grint plays Josh, believed to be a rival boyband member. David Tennant said in a 2012 radio interview that he was playing a brand new character.

The 3D CGI animated Postman Pat: The Movie is written by Annika Bluhm, Kim Fuller and Nicole Dubuc and is directed by Mike Disa. The film will be released in the UK on Friday 23rd May.

David Tennant Review Of 2013: March - April

We continue with our review of David's projects this year.

As we move into March and April, Broadchurch finally arrives on UK TV screens, closely followed by The Politician's Husband while we finally got the Doctor Who news that we were all waiting for.

March

TV

Broadchurch began on ITV on March 4th at 9pm

The ratings started high with the series winning out against BBC one's rival drama Mayday. By the halfway point at the end of the month it was being watched by over 7 million viewers. Series creator Chris Chibnall told how the ending of the drama was kept a secret while filming even from the cast and also praised David's acting skills. Also a number of cast members featured in interviews:

The mystery of who killed Danny Latimer gripped the public so much that UK bookmakers started giving odds on the outcome. Meanwhile there was controversy when series sponsors Viking River Cruises pulled their ads following scenes of a burning boat.

BAFTA released a podcast of the Q&A session following their screening of the first episode in January, which was attended by David, Chris Chibnall and Olivia Colman - listen to it here

New photos were released of David in The Politician's Husband which was due to begin shortly on BBC Two. Meanwhile David braved the snows of Scotland to shoot The Escape Artist with Sophie Okonedo, which was scheduled for an autumn broadcast on BBC One.

Ahead of the USA premiere of Spies Of Warsaw, BBC America expanded their mini-site for the drama to include, a new trailer, video clips, interviews and photos.

Twenty Twelve, narrated by David, scooped two awards - The South Bank Sky Arts Comedy Awards and Best Entertainment / Comedy at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards

David appeared on BBC One to co-host part of the Red Nose Day 2013: Funny For Money live show on Friday 15th March. Watch a clip of his arrival on the show here

David appeared on the BBC America The Doctors Revisited special dedicated to the third Doctor, Jon Pertwee.

However, the end of March brought the exciting news that Doctor Who fans had been anticipating for months. David, along with Billie Piper, would return for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special. 

The episode would begin shooting in April. However, another fan favourite ruled himself out when John Barrowman confirmed that Captain Jack Harkness would not be appearing. 

Theatre

Booking for Richard II at the Barbican Theatre in London opened this month. The news also came that seats for the run in Stratford-upon-Avon had already sold out, and the play was announced as the fastest selling in the Royal Shakespeare Company's history.

Film

The release date for Postman Pat: You Know You're The One was postponed from May 2013 to a winter release. David voices an as yet unnamed character

Doctor Who

The Gary Russell Tenth Doctor novel Beautiful Chaos  was re-released with a newly designed 50th Anniversary cover.

A range of Doctor Who stamps were announced by the Royal Mail to celebrate the anniversary

The BBC announced an official Doctor Who celebration weekend event for the anniversary in November

Even though we had no idea in March that by the end of the year there would be a new face in the TARDIS, Sun readers were nevertheless voting for David among people they would like to see as the Twelfth Doctor

It was announced that David would be playing the role of Sir Walter Scott in three dramatisations of the writer's best known works for BBC Radio 4

TV

Broadchurch continued to pull in huge ratings and to grip the public on ITV

David and Olivia appeared on ITV Daybreak ahead of the climax. The series was presented by Shine International for sale to international territories at MIPCOM and was eagerly snapped up by broadcasters around the world. The haunting Broadchurch  soundtrack by Ólafur Arnalds was made available to buy on iTunes

The series climaxed on the 22nd April. Ahead of the final episode ITV released a series of mini '#Closure' trailers. Viewers were urged to watch right to the very end of the credits and were rewarded with the announcement that the drama would return for a second series, Chris Chibnall assured viewers that the second series would be very different and would not just be another murder mystery. It was, he said, another story that he knew that he wanted to tell, even when writing the first series. He also said that David Tennant and Olivia Colman are two of the finest actors in the world and revealed that even he was surprised by the success of Broadchurch:

“I really didn’t expect it to take off on this scale. My parents rang to tell me that people in their GP’s surgery were asking them who the Broadchurch killer was. I overheard people discussing it on the bus."

The read through for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special took place in London on the 1st April. It was revealed that David Tennant, Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman and Billie Piper would be joined by Joanna Page and John Hurt in then unknown roles. 

Jemma Redgrave would also return as Kate Stewart of UNIT. The production then moved down to Cardiff where shooting took place in the Cardiff area, at Chepstow castle, and also back in London at Trafalgar Square and the Tower of London. On set sightings also revealed that the Doctors would be facing the classic foe, the Zygons, David's all time favourite Doctor Who alien. The BBC posted some London filming videos while photos also emerged of the filming at Chepstow and John Hurt talked about working with David

However, other actors were still confirming that they had not been asked to return. John Simm reaffirmed that he would not be back, and the classic Doctors, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann also denied involvement, although Paul McGann later hinted that he might yet play a role. It was also suggested that the classic Doctors could appear in digital form

David contributed to the Fourth Doctor special in the Doctors Revisited series on BBC America, focusing on Tom Baker.

Spies Of Warsaw premiered on BBC America on the 3rd April.

Postman Pat: The Movie Casting Update

Ronan Keating has joined the cast of Postman Pat: The Movie to play the singing voice of Pat.

Postman Pat: The Movie – You Know You’re The One brings the classic kids' TV character to the big screen for the first time in a 3D spectacular with an all-star cast as Pat ventures into the world of TV talent shows. 
It features the voices of Stephen Mangan as Pat and Kate Winslet as Pat’s wife with David Tennant, Rupert Grint and Jim Broadbent. Ronan Keating will provide Pat's singing voice.

David stated in a BBC Radio 5 interview last year that his character is a new one, and it is believed that he may play a Simon Cowell-type character, while Rupert Grint is a member of a competing boy band. And, of course, Jess the Cat will be on hand too.

Speaking about his part in the film Keating said: 
"It's been a true honour to help bring Postman Pat's singing voice to life. I grew up watching Pat and all the great characters in Greendale, so I can't wait to take my kids along to see them all on the big screen."

The Postman Pat animated movie, which includes David Tennant among its voice cast, has been pushed back to a 2014 release.

Both the UK Film Distributors Association website and the cinema advertisers' site DCM have now confirmed the release date as Friday 23rd May 2014. Previously DCM posted a date of 25th December 2013.

UK Cinematic Release Date For The Postman Pat Movie

Digital Cinema Media have revealed the proposed release date of Postman Pat: The Movie - You Know You're The One on their website. DCM, the main vendors of cinema advertising in the UK, have listed the film's release as 25th December 2013.

Postman Pat: The Movie brings the ever-popular kids' TV character to the big screen in full 3D glory, as Pat ventures into the world of TV talent competitions. The film is written by Nicole Dubuc, Kim Fuller and Annika Bluhm and directed by Mike Disa. It features the voices of Stephen Mangan (as Pat), David Tennant, Rupert Grint, Kate Winslet and Jim Broadbent, with Gary Barlow providing Pat's singing voice. Postman Pat Movie Update: Now In The Final Stages Of Production

Jordan-based multimedia and entertainment company Rubicon Group Holding (RGH) were present at the Cannes Film Festival last week.

The company's animation production studios are currently working on Postman Pat: The Movie and reported that they are at an advanced stage with filming the 3D feature. David Corbett, RGH’s executive director, North America said “The film is in the final stages of production, so much so that a trailer is finished and was presented to Prince Charles on his recent visit to the RGH headquarters in Amman.”

The movie finds everyone’s favourite postman coming face-to-face with the temptations of money, status and a shiny new suit when he enters a national TV talent show competition. The voice cast includes Stephen Mangan (as Pat), David Tennant, Jim Broadbent and Rupert Grint Scripted by Kim Fuller and Annika Bluhm,and directed by Mike Disa, it is due for cinematic release in the winter of 2013.

Rescheduled Release Date For Postman Pat Movie

The new animated feature Postman Pat: You Know You're The One appears to have been pushed back in the UK cinema release schedules to later this year. Originally listed for release on Friday 24th May, the Film Distributors' Association are now showing the film with a release date to be confirmed while Filmdates claim a Winter 2013 release. It seems most likely that the filmmakers are now aiming for a Christmas release.

Postman Pat: You Know You're The One is a big screen, 3D version of the classic BBC children's TV series which follows the exploits of a village postman who travels on his rounds with his faithful black and white cat Jess. The film sees Pat stepping outside the safety of his beloved village Greendale as he ventures into the world of reality TV when he enters a national talent competition in order to win money to take his wife on holiday. Written by Kim Fuller and Annika Bluhm and directed by Mike Disa, the film features the voice of Stephen Mangan as Pat, with characters also played by David Tennant, Rupert Grint and Jim Broadbent, and Gary Barlow providing Pat's singing voice. 

Prince Charles got an early look at scenes from the film on a recent visit to Rubicon's animation studios in Jordan where the film is being made. The Prince was shown the opening scene of the Postman Pat film, putting on 3D glasses to see a train pulling in to Greendale Station before the camera flies across lush fields with children playing in them and arrives at Pat’s front door, where Jess is sitting on the doorstep wearing the postman’s cap.

Randa Ayoubi, the chief executive of Rubicon, told the Prince: “We are doing this for children all over the world. He is a very authentic character and this is Pat being taken outside the UK and into the world.”

Postman Pat: You Know You're The One is scheduled for release in the USA and Canada on 27th November 2013.

They have teamed up with Icon Film Distribution, Lionsgate UK and RGH Entertainment - the animation development and production unit of Rubicon Group Holding.

David will be joined in the film by a stellar cast, with Jim Broadbent and Rupert Grint also voicing characters and  Stephen Mangan taking on the lead role as Pat.

David recently revealed during an interview with Chris Moyles on Radio1 that he will be playing a new character not seen in the TV version of Postman Pat.

He also spoke very briefly about the top secret film at the premiere of his latest film, The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists!, saying:
""Yes, I'm working with Rupert Grint. I've already told you more than I'm allowed!"
He also confirmed Pat's feline pal Jess would be present saying:
 "Oh yes, it's Postman Pat. Are you mental?"
When asked if his latest roles where a return to his childhood he replied:
"It's just the way it has worked out, I think. It's just what I have been asked to do, but I will definitely not turn down the chance to be in The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists or Postman Pat. That would be crazy." He does have a point!

Listen To David's Radio 5 Live Interview

David was interviewed by Simon Mayo on BBC Radio 5 Live earlier this afternoon. He was there to chat about his new film, The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists! Speaking of the film David said that he'd been approached to take part in the project quite a while ago as he was still in Doctor Who at the time. He also spoke about his decision to use his native Scottish accent to voice his character, Charles Darwin, and said it was probably historically inaccurate as “Charles Darwin was never from Paisley”
David also spoke a bit about his future projects True Love and Postman Pat The Movie. He wasn't allowed to give much away about Postman Pat but he has confirmed that his character is a new one, not from the TV series, and he says he has based his accent on the actor Iain Cuthbertson. Speaking about True Love he said that will air on BBC One in the next few weeks.
