Smoking and smacking

Person A: Advocates the decriminalistion of light drugs such as cannabis (although not heroin), so that people who possess a light amount of drugs are not prosecuted.

Person B: Advocates for criminilisation of light smacking such as a tap on the bum (although not child abuse), so that under law parents who lightly smack are criminals and can be prosecuted.

What if Person A was also Person B?

Metiria Turei is the Greens co-leader

Congratulations to Metiria Turei, who has been elected as the Green Party's new co-leader at the party's annual conference today.

Will the Greens now have a campaign song about living in a Metiria world?

Sue Bradford was smacked out of contention. Some say she was never really in contention.

Jeanette Fitzsimons is staying on as a backbencher.

Metiria Turei

Good to hear that Metiria Turei will probably be the new Greens co-leader this weekend.

Greens leadership

Jeanette Fitzsimons is to resign as the Greens co-leader. Russel Norman will remain but the two main contenders for the other post are Metiria Turei and Sue Bradford. If the Greens had any sense they'd pick Turei in June. At least she understands the law.
