Meet the Tooting family. Mr Tooting has just lost his job, but he doesn't let that get him down. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce as the first authorised sequel to the classic children's novel by Ian Fleming. Boyce has written two further titles in the series. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang And The Race Against Time is out now with an audio version read by David to follow later this year. Hardback and Kindle editions of the third novel, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: Over The Moon, are released on the 26th September.

David Tennant Meets The Reading Force Prizewinner

The chance to meet David Tennant and watch him recording the audiobook of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again was the prize won by a lucky schoolgirl as part of Kingston University's Reading Force campaign.

The campaign aims to bring together Forces families that have been separated by postings by having parents read the same books as their children back home. They can then discuss them together on the web and through scrapbooks. Chloe Armstrong from Aldershot won her amazing prize after submitting her scrapbook to the University.

The Guardian newspaper have today released an audioclip of David Tennant in converation with Lucy Fleming, niece of Ian Fleming, the creator of the magical flying car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. David's latest audiobook release is a recording of the first authorised sequel to the classic children's tale, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again, written by Frank Cottrell Boyce. David was asked by the Fleming family to give voice to the book.

In the interview, David prraises the well-rounded characters created by Boyce and describes the story as ‘very clever, slightly surreal and hugely readable'. He also talks about his memories of the original story and the film, his own past cars and hints that Boyce has peppered the tale with a few nods towards James Bond, Ian Fleming's other infamous creation.

New David Tennant Audiobook Release

David Tennant's newest audiobook recording, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again, is now available to download. David recorded the adventure story written by Millions author Frank Cottrell Boyce only a few weeks ago, but the publishers, Macmillan Digital Audio have released the title just in time for Christmas.

The publishers say of the story:

The Press Association article accompanying the release states:

David Tennant is the voice of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in a new sequel to the story of the flying car.
The former Doctor Who from West Lothian was chosen by the family of Ian Fleming, the author of the original story, to take the part in the new audiobook Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again.
The new story, by Frank Cottrell Boyce, is the first official sequel and has just been released online.
The original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was written by James Bond creator Fleming and was made into a popular film in 1968 starring Dick Van Dyke.
Lucy Fleming, niece of the original author, said: "We are thrilled that David agreed to read the audiobook. He is such a talented actor and his voice brings Frank Cottrell Boyce's story to life with a wry humour and great characterisation. Chitty could not have been in safer hands with him behind the wheel."
The new story contains references to famous James Bond characters and moments, in tribute to the original author.
In an interview which accompanies the audiobook, David said: "The idea of a flying car is hard to better. I think we would all love to have a car that would take off, escape the traffic and fly you to any country in the world."
When asked to sum up the story in three words, the actor could not quite manage it, saying it is "very clever, slightly surreal and hugely readable".

David Records A New Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Audiobook

David Tennant has added another title to his growing repertoire of audiobooks. Strathmore Publishing today announced that David had been working with them in the following tweet:


“David Tennant finished in our studio yesterday: brilliant reading of brilliant book CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG FLIES AGAIN “


The book by Frank Cottrell Boyce is a new story about the flying car created by the late Ian Fleming and forms the first part of a trilogy written with the full consent and support of Fleming's family. As yet, not details of a release date are available.
