Photographer's Note
Sunrise over Skopelos
Skopelos is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, the largest (96 km2) of the Northern Sporades. Skopelos is also the name of the island capital and main port. The town has slightly above 3000 inhabitants, although the population is likely significantly larger in the summer months. The photo was taken on a quiet Sunday morning. No wind and
empty streets, so I could hear sounds from far away. Eventually a pope began singing somewhere below (there would be 123 churches and chapels in Skopelos Town!), and then there were bells ringing and later more singing with kids joining. [Note that pope - or father - is used here as a synonym for priest. I mention because I remember once telling an American catholic that I had breakfast with the pope and that he immediately seemed puzzled and skeptical!] In the back-ground is Alonissos, the third of the Sporades from the main land.
