Man Kumari Sunar, mother of Durga Bahadur Sunar, who has been sentenced to death penalty in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on charge of murder, has appealed to the government, rights activists, and media houses, among others to make a diplomatic deal to save her son.
She made the appeal at a press conference organised by Mirmire Media Club here on Sunday.
Durga Bahadur of Chitre VDC Ward No. 4 from Parbat district had reached the UAE in search of work 8 years ago. He was however pronounced guilty for murdering Ganesh Bahadur Basnet, employed at the Sirui Equipment Company in UAE. Since then, Sunar has awaiting the death sentence at the Sharjah Prison House in UAE.
In the verdict, the Court has offered three options to the kin of the deceased including a death penalty to the guilty, a compensation of Rs. 2 million as blood money or to pardon the accused, according to Nepali Embassy in the UAE.
Man Kumari said kin of Basnet have demanded Rs. 2 million as blood money but that is beyond her reach even to save her dear son.
During the programme, rights activists Dinesh Tripathi said the government should leave no stone unturned to save Durga Bahadur's life even by providing compensation from Sunar's side.
Senior legal practitioner Lal Prasad Subedi said there is not much time left to save Durga Bahadur so the government should take a decision quickly.
As the incident is very sensitive the media workers need to disseminate the information and exert pressure on the authorities concerned to save Durga Bahadur from death penalty, said another rights activist Bishnu Prasad Shrestha.
