ANCHORAGE, Alaska— Even though Alaska doesn't have a death penalty, a small group of Alaskans says it's an issue that matters to all Americans. Sunday afternoon Alaskans against the Death Penalty and Amnesty International protested the death penalty at town square.
"They meet here every October, they read the names of those who are on death row and their victims," Paster Dan Bollerud said.
Even though the group meets every year, this year members say a recent death penalty case brings the debate to the forefront of people's minds.
Last month, Georgia executed Troy Davis, who was convicted of killing a police officer, but thousands believe he was wrongfully convicted.
"I personally feel the death penalty has no place in any situation," Bollerud said.
34 states have the death penalty.
