Three young men hanged in public in western Iran

Iran Human Rights, July 19: Three young men were hanged publicly in the Azadi (Freedom) Square of Kermanshah in western Iran this morning July 19th.

According to the official website of the judiciary in Kermanshah, the men were identified as "Javad A.", "Milad Gh." and "Javad A." and convicted of kidnapping and rape of girl on April 25th this year.

The men were hanged at 10 AM this morning.

The age of the three men was not mentioned in the report but according to the report they had an average age of 21 years and two months.

The final verdict was issued at a local court only 18 days after the alleged offence and the sentence was approved by the Supreme Court one week later. The execution order was finally given by the head of the Iranian judiciary on July 10th.

Iran Human Rights (IHR) strongly condemns today’s public executions in Kermanshah.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR, said that the fact that the final death sentence was issued only 18 days after the alleged crime indicates that these men were not subjected to a proper and standard judicial process. Amiry-Moghaddam added: "We can not rule out that there were no minor offenders among those executed today since only their average age of 21 years and two months was announces by the officials". He ended: "World community must condemn the barbaric public executions that are meant to spread fear in the society".
