5 convicted drug traffickers were hanged in the main prison in Orumieh in Iran's northwest, Iranpressnews reported on Tuesday. The men were hanged immediately after being sentenced to death by a court in Orumieh, the report said.
Esfandiar Mandahki, Teimur Aiubian, Aref Rashid-pour and 2 other unnamed men bring to 300 the number of people hanged in Iran over the past 9 months.
Since the 1979 Iranian Revolution, drug trafficking is among a series of crimes punishable with the death penalty.
