Bali Nine pair speak up

Andrew Chan, Myuran Sukumaran
2 Australians on death row for their role in the Bali 9 drug-smuggling operation have spoken to media about the bungled attempt to smuggle 8.3kg of heroin out of Bali 5 years ago.

Myuran Sukumaran, 29, and Andrew Chan, 26, are making a last bid to get their death sentences overturned, with a final hearing expected in Bali on Friday before their appeals are sent to Indonesia's Supreme Court for a verdict.

Sukumaran told SBS's Dateline programme he joined the Bali Nine because he did not want to work in a mailroom for the next 50 years of his life.

Chan said he was a pastor in the prison church, was studying religion and had fallen in love with a Balinese woman.

He also apologised for his Bali 9 role.
