A man who was on death row for more than 2 decades will soon be free.
James Fisher Jr. pleaded guilty to murder Monday, and was given a life sentence with the possibility of parole. He was on death row for more than 20 years for killing Terry Neal at his Oklahoma City apartment back in 1982.
Fisher was convicted twice before but the rulings were reversed because of his previous defense attorney's poor performance. The 47-year-old has already served 27 years behind bars.
"He took the deal that would get him out of jail and we were able to accomplish that today, and so he'll be a free man later today," said Perry Hudson, Fisher's defense attorney.
Fisher will have to go through rehabilitative services for about 3 years.
