Hamas has executed two men in Gaza suspected of being informants for Israel, Israel Radio reported on Thursday.Naser abu Fraig and Mohammed Ismail, both aged 30, were shot dead for allegedly passing information to Israel which led to the death of two Hamas members during last year’s armed conflict between Israel and the Islamic group in the Gaza Strip last year.
In its decision to carry out the death penalty Hamas flouted a number of Palestinian human rights organizations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip who appealed for leniency.
Human rights organizations have long been demanding that the death penalty be abolished in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
It’s not known how many Palestinians have been sentenced to death by Hamas courts in the Gaza Strip for allegedly serving as informants for Israel.
In the past year, Hamas authorities announced that they have managed to uncover dozens of “collaborators” in the Gaza Strip, some of whom had been directly and indirectly responsible for the killing of Palestinian gunmen and civilians.
