Bali 9: I will not testify for Rush, Renae Lawrence says

Lawrence (pictured, left) today confirmed she had written a fresh statement to help Rush's final appeal, which represents his last realistic chance of avoiding the death penalty.

But Lawrence was adamant she would not testify at any fresh hearings that may arise from the appeal, known as a judicial review.

"The only information I had to write was he was exactly the same as I was: a drug courier,'' Lawrence told reporters inside Bali's notorious Kerobokan Prison.

"I wrote, Scott (pictured, right) was a courier, like me, Martin (Stephens) and Michael (Czugaj), to help Scott get off the death penalty.

"But I never said I would go to court, I never said I would testify again ... and I will not.''

Rush and Lawrence were 2 of 9 young Australians arrested at Denpasar airport on April 17, 2005, over an attempt to smuggle more than 8 kilograms of heroin into Australia.

Rush's legal team intend to argue his death sentence is unjust because lighter sentences were given to the other couriers, such as Lawrence, who is serving a 20-year sentence.

One of his lawyers, Robert Khuana, said the team was currently finalising the appeal to Indonesia's Supreme Court.

"Hopefully before April we can lodge it,'' he said.

If the court believes the appeal has merit it may order fresh hearings.

If the court rejects the appeal, Rush's only hope of survival will be presidential clemency, which is extremely unlikely.

Ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran are also on death row and are also expected to lodge their final appeals this year.
