South Australian Premier Mike Rann has spoken of an attack in which he was frequently struck in the face during a vicious bashing at a fundraising dinner. Mr Rann, who witnesses said was attacked from behind with a rolled up magazine while at a table at a $600-a-head business function last night, Adelaide Now reports.
"I have only received minor staining to the cheek,'' Mr Rann said. The matter was now in the hands of police, the Premier said in a statement.
"Accordingly it would be highly unsuitable for me to give any detailed comment on what occurred and the circumstances generally,'' he said. "I will be speaking to police force about this matter.''
The alleged assailant, a 55-year-old man from Burnside, has been charged with provoked assault and will appear in court on December 7.
