Day of Islamic Human Rights and Human Dignity

TEHRAN, Aug. 05 (ISNA)-August 5 has been called the “day of Islamic human rights and human dignity” by the Organization of the Islamic Countries (OIC) after Iran’s foreign ministry offered its proposal*.

In a resolution issued at the meeting of OIC foreign ministers in Uganda June 18 and 19, OIC members agreed to call August 5 the “day of Islamic human rights and human dignity.”

The resolution has been presented with the purpose of introducing and propagating Islamic values in relation to human rights, defending the real image of Islam and defying against anti-Islam insults.

The resolution invites OIC members to organize ceremonies for marking the day and promote human rights dialogue to higher levels.

5 of August associates the Cairo declaration of human rights in Islam which is the most important ratified document of OIC in regard to human rights.
